When creativity is the bulk of a job, there can be times when inspiration wanes. This situation will probably sound familiar to many people. How can you free yourself in these moments to rekindle your creativity and develop new ideas? With the following 3 tips you can bring a breath of fresh air into your world of ideas:
1. Make regular changes in perspective
We humans are “creatures of habit” and love our routines. We often fall into patterns because they help us create structure in our everyday lives and focus on the really challenging moments. We can orientate ourselves on them. but they also let itlittle freedom for new actions or thoughts. Because that is exactly the advantage of routines: we no longer have to think about them specifically, but “just do it”.
They can be an enrichment in many ways, but they are particularly a hindrance when it comes to creative work. In everyday (work) life there is often hardly any time to break out of your usual patterns, but it is precisely these moments that allow us to create things that we would not otherwise create.
That's why they areA change of perspective is a brilliant opportunity!Even if it's difficult, try consciously incorporating something different into your usual routines.
An example:Your way to work. Sources of inspiration are often everyday things that we sometimes perceive more, sometimes less (consciously). If there is another way to get to your work, take this one! Or take a closer look at your route the next time you drive home –consciously go through the world with your eyes open.Pay attention to a specific thing such as the colors of the houses. You will discover some things that you hadn't noticed before - and you can use this inspiration for your new creative work!
2. Create creative works to create
Without trying something, you will never know what an idea could become. That's why you shouldBe sure to pursue spontaneous creative impulsesand try to implement them. Especially if they involve ideas that deviate from your previous techniques or the style you normally use. Even if at first you think that this type of creativity is not yours - without experimenting you will unintentionallylimit yourself in your creativity.
An example:Do you otherwise only work digitally? Grab some paint and a brush and see how your “usual” work can be carried out with it. Above all, the switch between analog and digital (or the mix of both) has inspired many a creative mind!
The biggest trap in everyday life is sinking into customer orders and not giving any space to your own creative ideas. Define yourselfprecise time frames in which you create exclusively for yourself. Consciously use different approaches or color palettes. Think big and let your creativity run wild - for example, create designs for your absolute dream customers. Who knows what other ideas this process will unleash in you!
3. Use your senses holistically
An infinite number of impressions affect us throughout the day. We often notice them but do not consciously process them. You can use these situations in particular as creative sources of inspiration afterwards. Why not rely on other senses? With our eyes we see the “obvious” things.
But have you ever paid attention towhich smell you associate with certain situations? We rarely use our olfactory memory, but when a familiar smell hits our nose, it brings back very specific memories. This allows you to transport yourself back to a place or time and draw ideas from that old “new” memory!
OneExercise:Remember a glimpse of yesterday. What exactly did you see? What did it smell like? Feel within yourself what feeling and emotions this thought triggers in you. Is an image coming to your mind as to how this can be represented creatively? Then you should stop reading this article immediately and implement the idea - have fun!
